Hi everyone, Arlo here. I’m a 7-year-old boy who is still figuring out this whole ‘trusting humans’ business. When I arrived at my foster home, I was frightened, especially around women, and wasn’t comfortable being touched. Today, I’m happier, more confident, and enjoying cuddles with the people I trust. I’ve even made friends with my dog walker, which is a pretty big deal for me. I’m smart, know lots of commands, and am wonderfully easy-going at home. I’m quite content to snooze while my people are busy, although I also LOVE an adventure. Car rides, camping, swimming, boating, and paddleboarding…I’m in. I’m especially talented at fetching floaty toys, rolling in mud, and attempting to catch mosquitoes. My enthusiasm greatly exceeds my success rate. My Golden foster sister has helped me discover that the world isn’t a scary place. I copy almost everything she does ~ not because I’m a copycat…she simply has excellent ideas. A calm, easy-going canine companion could be wonderful for me, provided we’re introduced gradually and thoughtfully. I’m still nervous around new people and generally more comfortable with men. If someone approaches too quickly, reaches for me or makes a sudden movement, I may jump back and bark. I need an experienced, patient family who understands that strangers shouldn’t pet me and that trust must happen on my timetable. I can also bark, lunge, and pull when I see other dogs on leash…and my bark is BIG. My family will need to continue my training and help me navigate the world safely. An adult-only home in a quieter setting would suit me best. Condo hallways, elevators, and busy lobbies would be difficult for me. I also have moderate arthritis in my hips, so I’ll need ongoing veterinary care, pain management, and gentle exercise to keep me strong and comfortable. I can be left alone for 5-6 hours, rarely bark at home, and once I trust you, become a very sweet and cuddly boy. I’ll even perform an enthusiastic little tap dance when you come home. I’m looking for someone who won’t rush me, give up on me or expect my trust before it has been earned. Give me time to feel safe and I’ll give you the happiest smile…and my whole heart.
