Hi, I’m 2-year-old Tripp. Some people say I have big Golden energy. Others say I have absolutely no concept of personal space. They’re both right. If you’re looking for a boy who will lovingly supervise every move you make, from brushing your teeth to folding laundry to wondering why you’re in the bathroom with the door closed, then congratulations…I’ve been training for this position my entire life. I take my job as Velcro-boy very seriously. I adore my people. Now, I should probably confess a few things before we meet. I’m strong ~ both in body and in opinion. If you ask me to “down”, “off”, or “no”, I may feel it’s appropriate to negotiate first. I’m smart ~ sometimes a little too smart. I’m also what you might call ‘spatially enthusiastic’. I don’t always know where all four feet, my tail, and the rest of me are at any given moment, so occasionally I become an accidental tripping hazard. I prefer to think of it as helping everyone improve their balance. Walks? I love them! But we’re still working on my social skills. When I see another dog on leash, I tend to announce myself rather enthusiastically. I bark because I’m excited and curious…not because I want trouble. My foster hasn’t seen any aggression, just a boy who gets a little too carried away saying, “HEY! HI! HELLO! CAN WE BE FRIENDS?” A patient family willing to keep working on my leash manners and socialization will help me become the gentleman I’m meant to be. New people and unfamiliar situations make me a little nervous at first. I like to take my time deciding that you’re one of the good ones. But once I do? Oh, you’re family. I’ll love you with my whole heart. I’m happiest in a home where someone is around most of the time. When my people leave, I miss them. I may whine or bark to let the universe know that I would very much prefer they return immediately. The good news? I don’t take my feelings out on your furniture. Cars aren’t my favourite thing either…at least not the getting-in part. A strategically placed treat helps me overcome this tiny obstacle, and once I’m inside, I’m quite happy to come along for the ride. Overall, I’m a healthy, affectionate, funny, loving Golden with a huge heart and just a few rough edges that are polishing up beautifully in foster care. I don’t need perfection. I just need someone who sees past the barking, the stubborn streak, and the occasional lack of spatial awareness to the incredible boy waiting underneath. Because here’s the thing…the best dogs aren’t the ones who arrive completely finished. They’re the ones who make the journey with you. Could that be us?
