#5040 Harvey
Gender: male
We picked Harvey up from his foster family in early December. After a visit and a walk, he reluctantly climbed into the car and spent the hour-long drive home cuddled up with my friend. His bond with his foster family was obvious ~ so obvious, in fact, that he hesitated to even get out of the car when we arrived. Once inside, he claimed a spot in the kitchen ~ a comfy bed tucked under the end of the table. His official welcome committee consisted my son’s cat, whose greeting was delivered in the form of a few well-placed hisses. Harv took the hint immediately and learned that avoidance was the safest strategy. Other than brief trips to the backyard, he stayed glued to his kitchen bed for almost two days. On the second night, he surprised me by following me upstairs and, with a little encouragement, hopped onto the corner of the bed where he spent the entire night. Early on, he was timid with visitors and cautious when meeting people and their dogs on walks. Slowly but surely, he began accepting greetings and eventually warmed up, especially to children. A few weeks later, he and the cat officially declared a truce. Harv has truly made himself at home and continues to live up to his description of being a certified Velcro boy. These days, he’s having a blast doing snow zoomies with his toys in the backyard and enthusiastically rediscovering the treasures in his toy box. Harv is a special little guy who has brought a lot of love and joy back into my home…something that’s been deeply missing since GR Buddy passed.
