#2725 Lori
Gender: female
Lori, aka Lori-Cross-Paws for her favourite position, spent the first four years of her life in a puppy mill as a breeding female. The mill closed and she came to GR. We had recently lost a Golden, so we decided to adopt Lori. Although she was housebroken, she knew nothing of the outside world. She had to be lifted into our car to come home with us. On arrival, she found a corner and curled up there and barely moved for six weeks. This became her safe place and even now it is her go-to spot. We carried her outside to toilet and we put her food and water in front of her. She was very timid and frightened for the first two months. Eventually, we got her to walk on a leash and go about three houses down before she had to go back home. With lots of coaxing, she finally walked around the block and then even farther. She always knows which direction is home and triples her walking speed when she makes the turn for home. Now, she has her favourite routes and walks for about an hour at a time. She especially loves to run in the woods near our house. She is a very quiet girl. In her eight years with us, she has barked an average of once a year. She is not a swimmer BUT she is our roller-girl ~ loves to endlessly roll in grass, leaves or mulch or make snow angels in the winter. She is afraid of rain or thunder and will hide in our bedroom. She has little or no interest in other dogs or cats, but absolutely loves anyone who will give her a couple of pats. The first part of every walk is spent with Lori talking to everyone she meets asking them for pats. She continually makes progress towards becoming a normal Golden. She has learned to love car rides and will even put her head out the window (this took three years to accomplish). Lori now greets people at our front door, quietly and gently, and then visits them for pats once they are seated. She is our happy, sweet girl.
