Bala Cranberry Festival 2016

Take a fall drive to beautiful Bala and help us at the Golden Rescue booth.
The Bala Cranberry Festival takes place the Weekend after Thanksgiving.

Friday, October 14, 9am - 5pm
Saturday October 15, 9am - 5pm
Sunday October 16, 9am - 4pm

The Cranberry Festival has been around for more than 30 years and is a long-standing Golden Rescue tradition! It is one of our biggest events of the year (second only to our picnic). Last year, we raised over $2,000 in merchandise sales and donations. Way to go 2015 team! In addition, we cannot forget the awareness we generated leading to new volunteers, foster families and adoptions.

This is an outdoor event, so please be prepared for whatever Mother Nature has in store for us (we have seen it all in Bala!). Although weather in past years has been uncertain, fun will be had by all and our 'Golden Ambassadors' will attract the crowds no matter what the weather brings!!

Location: Bala, Ontario (in Muskoka)

For further information and updates about the festival itself, please visit their Website or Facebook Page.

Volunteers Needed

In addition to needing at least two Volunteers and two Goldens per shift, we are hopeful that we will find Event Leads for each of the three days.

Event Leads are responsible for opening the booth in the morning and packing up/closing at the end of the day (with help from the other volunteers). Duties will include:

  • Picking up the truck key from a local volunteer in the morning and passing it back after closing
  • Being the lead contact for volunteers to be in touch with (by cell phone)
  • Staying for the first shift to get everyone going
  • Returning for a portion of the last shift (if volunteers are lacking)
  • Taking all sales and donation proceeds home (for counting and remittance to Golden Rescue)

If we are unable to secure three Event Leads, we will look for Openers and Closers for each day instead:

Shift Times

8:30 am – 11:00 am
11:00 am – 2:30 pm
2:00 pm – 5:30 pm (4:30 pm on Sunday)

PLEASE NOTE: For volunteers opening at 8:30 – this shift will require you to assist in setting up merchandise from the truck. For those volunteers closing at 4 or 5pm - this shift will require your help with packing up.

If you happen to be in the area, we could also use help setting up the tents and tables late in the afternoon/early evening of Thursday, October 15th.

If you can Volunteer for any of these shifts, please contact volunteer(at) and specify which date and shift you can cover. Also please indicate if you can lend an extra hand as an Event Lead (or Opener/Closer) and if you will have a Golden with you. As this event is for Golden Rescue, all GOLDEN ambassadors are welcome!
