Adoption Alert ~ Payton #2641 - Adoption Pending

Hi everyone...my name is Payton and I’m just under a year old.  I say that to remind you that I’m still a pup.  A BIG pup, yes, but a pup nonetheless.  I know I’ve got a lot to learn as in my previous life I wasn’t taught much.  I am house-trained and I know how to sit, but that’s about it.  So, I need an experienced forever family to teach me all the things I should already know.  I’m a big strong boy ~ in fact, I have to lose a few pounds but I’m very active so that shouldn’t be a problem.  I love people, other dogs, and even cats are fine with me.  I’m not a big barker, I can be left alone if you have to go out, and I’m also okay in the crate.  The doc says I have no mobility issues but I don’t like stairs and I find getting into the car hard ~ I think I’m just fearful of both as they are new to me, although once I’m in the car I’m fine.  Go figure!  My big problem is I have guarding issues with food and toys.  I’m fine sometimes but sometimes I’ll growl if you try to take something from me I really want.  I’m working on this but you would have to continue my training and you’ll have to be patient with me until I learn the do's and don'ts.  I’m learning ‘drop it’ so if you want something I have, use that command.  Don’t try to grab it from me ~ I don’t like that.  In fact, I snapped once.  I didn’t hurt anyone but it was just a reflex reaction and I’m very embarrassed.  I know...I know, I have to figure this out because other than that I’ve been described as a sweet, gentle giant.  So, if you’re looking for a house-trained pup, I'm your boy.  I need a strong alpha to look up to and teach me pretty much everything and it’s probably best not to have any children in the home…at least for now.  The things I need no training on are loving, cuddling, and playing and being goofy and grateful. Those things come naturally to me!
